Cattail in Winter original pen-and-ink drawing

$65.00

This delicate pen-and-ink drawing depicts a Black-Capped Chickadee on a Broad-Leaved Cattail.

Black-Capped Chickadees are probably not eating the seeds of the cattail but searching for larvae. I learned that Shy Cosmet Moth Caterpillars “spin silk threads through the cattail head to prevent the fluff from blowing away before winter ends, allowing the caterpillars to use its insulation to stay warm all season long.” (from Rachel Sargent Mirus; read more here)

This artwork was created by hand with India ink on 9 × 12” Bristol paper.

* Your purchase supports land conservation: I donate 10% of profits from my landscape art to the Franklin Land Trust, which works to preserve farm and wild land in Western Massachusetts.

Made with love--enjoy!
