Drawing for Kids

Drawing is a way to enjoy being in the world by paying close attention. We’ll learn how to make our drawings reflect what we see and feel when we look at objects, people, and the rest of the world. We’ll explore various drawing materials like pencil, ink, markers, brushes. For children 6+ who do not need behavior management.

Mondays 3-4:30 (FULL)

Tuesdays 3-4:30 (some spaces open)

Students take the bus to my studio, have snack, then draw or paint for about an hour. I generally have a still-life set up available to work on and also provide books with animals and nature images and encourage imaginative drawing. We go with the flow and inspire one another. Class ends with a “beauty report,” when we look at everyone’s work and notice what we find particularly beautiful.

"Hannah strikes a wonderful balance between guidance and self-exploration of the medium at hand in her cozy Conway studio. The tone is both relaxed and focused at the same time. I enjoyed our exploration of color theory in her Fearless Pastel Painting class and am looking forward to taking more classes with her in the future.”

-Caroline Mannaerts

“I want to express my complete appreciation for Hannah! She has taught me how to do something, in three short weeks, that I never thought I could do. She has a calm, clear, kind, supportive teaching style mixed with a little bit of humor that makes her classroom fun and creative! Hannah's positive encouragement has brought out a creativity in me that I never thought I had and truly this is a gift from Hannah!! In addition, I'm always impressed with how she is able to meet each student where they are at and instruct and encourage their particular style. She is a wealth of knowledge and I am so thankful to have her as my drawing teacher!!”
