This small, sweet block print shows a Black-Capped Chickadee on a Broad-Leaved Cattail.
Black-Capped Chickadees are probably not eating the seeds of the cattail but searching for larvae. I learned that Shy Cosmet Moth Caterpillars “spin silk threads through the cattail head to prevent the fluff from blowing away before winter ends, allowing the caterpillars to use its insulation to stay warm all season long.” (from Rachel Sargent Mirus; read more here)
This print was created by hand with non-toxic ink on BFK Rieves paper. These are not reproductions. Each print is unique and will vary slightly.
Image measures 4x6" and comes matted in an acid-free 8x10 mat. Signed and numbered.
