I made this pastel painting on a late summer afternoon, looking out over the wetland in Pumpkin Hollow—it was Golden Hour, and the sun was setting rapidly. The shadows moved and deepened, and all the green was gold and the goldenrod was at its brightest. This painting captures the brightness and ephemerality of that moment.
