This part of town is known as Pumpkin Hollow because, according to stories, farmers used to grow pumpkins on all the hills surrounding the lowlands, and they would sometimes roll down the hills into the flat space between. I love the name because it’s evocative of a time just out of reach, and I love Pumpkin Hollow because it’s so darned beautiful. We had a very wet spring and water pooled enough to reflect my favorite yellow house, so I did my best to capture it. I love the special golden-green color the willows take on in spring before they leaf out into green, You can see one behind the white house. I’m grateful to the owners of the wetland and meadow shown here for protecting their land through the Franklin County Land Trust. Many plants and animals make their homes in this gorgeous spot.
