Pastels are pure, dry pigments, held together with a small amount of binder. This pure color is part of what makes pastel paintings so beautiful. Because fixative can change the color and destroy the way the pigment particles reflect light, I do not use fixative on my paintings. Pastel paintings must be framed under glass. Please plan to have your pastel professionally framed.
